Big Brothers Big Sisters works closely with parents and guardians to match every child with an appropriate Big. Every potential volunteer is screened, trained, and supervised, and professionals in youth development support each match to help ensure that the relationship will be safe and rewarding for everyone involved. Bigs and Littles share everyday activities: playing sports, seeing movies, cooking, going over schoolwork, visiting museums, washing the car, taking walks, volunteering in their communities, or just hanging out together. National research has shown that the shared experiences between Bigs and Littles have a direct and lasting impact on young people's lives. A Big can help a child discover a world of possibilities and opportunities simply by being a genuine friend. Big Brothers Big Sisters matches children between the ages of 6-12 that are primarily from single-parent families with volunteer adult mentors. Matches may last until a child graduates from high school.
